What are the Academy Awards?
The Academy Awards are presented to deserving students who demonstrate our 3 school-wide expectations on an ongoing basis - Respect, Responsibility & Self-Control
How do the students win an award?
All staff members are given nomination ballots. Each ballot has the three categories (Respect, Responsibility & Self-Control) and all areas of the school (Cafe, Classroom, Playground etc). When a staff member “catches” a student demonstrating a positive behavior, the staff member will fill out a ballot, circling the category and where the behavior occurred. The student then takes the ballot to the main office where the secretary tallies them up for each student, for each category. Towards the end of 4 1/2 weeks, the student with the most nominations for each category is the winner. Also, the three students with the most for each category become nominees.
How are the awards presented and how often?
We gather in the all-purpose room where a slideshow presentation is prepared to display the nominees and winners for each category. The presentation is similar to the Academy Awards on television, showing the pictures of four nominees and the winner for each category. We hold an Academy Awards Ceremony every 4 1/2 weeks.
What does a winner receive?
Each winner receives the Star-Reacher Statuette to display in his/her homeroom until the next Academy Awards Ceremony. Each winner receives a folder containing a certificate, pencils, candy bar & other miscellaneous school supplies. Also, each nominee stands and is recognized and given a treat. The ultimate prize the students receive is lunch with the principal, Ms. Moran.
Can a student win more than once? Can a student win more than one category at a time?
Yes, a student can win more than once. A student can also win more than one category at a time. We feel if it is earned, it should be rewarded.
The ultimate goal of the Academy Awards is to reinforce good citizenship.
